Lol, was that subject title ok?

Alright, I know we had this little discussion a while back, about creating shortcuts to launch applications and open files via the run dialogue box... Well, I want to take it a bit further and so far I'm unsuccessful. Maybe you all can help me.

1. I'd like to create these shortcuts for internet addresses. So, in run command, I could type zone, and it would bring me here. Reading on how to do this, looks simple, but I'm doing something wrong, because it isn't working.

2. This is the one that I think would be really fun, but not sure how to go about it. You know how we have bookmarks in winamp? Well, mine are all radio stations, I'd like to type the call letters in the run command, and that bookmark would begin playing. It works for me to type winamp and winamp opens...

What do you guys think?

Thanks for the help!

i'd give you instructions of how to do it using something called batch, but there must be a eassier way?

I think thats all under the system variables... although I am not completely sure. I know there is something similar however, if you use open dns's service. You can use any browser pretty much that is within your list of networks that you add there which can make a shorcut. So you type in zone and it'd bring you here. additionally, you could edit the hosts.txt files. Do some research on it... it'll be useful, I promise.

Here's the original way I learned how to create my own run commands. So far, this has worked for me great! It has just been the internet shortcuts, where I'm doing something wrong.

1. Create a folder for your shortcuts under your user folder, eg, c:documents and settingsusernameshortcuts
2. Right click My Computer, click properties.
3. Click the advanced tab.
4. Click the Environment Variables button at the bottom of the tab.
5. Under user variables, add a new variable named "Path".
6. Enter %homedrive%%homepath%shortcuts for the variable value.**
7. Create shortcuts and plop them in the shortcuts folder you created.

Hmmm, well maybe I have been successful? I've kept playing around with this. I saved an internet shortcut, gave it a name, and entered it into the run dialogue box. Apparently, I need to type name.url. It opened for me then. Lol, I was actually hoping I could just type name, and it would open. Aw'well.

Its pretty easy to get your favourites displayed on your start menu as a sub menu. Maybe organize your quick links you want into a menu in favourites and then just hit start, A for favs and then Q for qucik links and there you go, hitting the access key for each link. Z for zone etc.

Good suggestion Fudge. I have my favorites as a submenu already. I really like it that way. I actually set up my my documents and pictures that way as well.

I'm hooked on this shortcut stuff! One of my favorite music folders is a few layers deep, well not anymore! I created a run shortcut and now I only need to type the name of the folder and tada! It's so fun! BTW, I also created a keyboard shortcut for that folder as well!

A little side question...? Does anyway know of the location of the keyboard shortcuts? Is there one place?
